RAVENS SWEEP PRIDE IN MEN'S TENNIS

WESTON, Mass. – Franklin Pierce University defeated the Regis College men's tennis team, 9-0, on Friday afternoon in Weston, Mass. The Pride fall to 0-2 on the year, while Franklin Piece pushes its record to 1-0.

The Ravens took a 3-0 lead following doubles play as Patrick Gilhuly (Killingworth, Conn.) and Christopher Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) defeated the Pride's Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Nathan Cohen (Randolph, Mass.), 8-4. Franklin Pierce's Jared Taylor (Pelham, N.H.) and Drew Bennett (Rindge, N.H.) picked up a win at No. 2 doubles by the matching score, while Tyler Colombo (Gardner, Mass.) and Mark Petrie (Pembroke, Mass.) defeated Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) and Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.), 9-7, at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Gilhuly needed a third set to defeat Beluch as the senior won 6-2, 1-6, 10-8. Andy White nearly defeated Drew Bennett at No. 4 singles, but Bennett defeated White in a tie break, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). Christopher Brewer and Tyler Colombo picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, respectively for Franklin Pierce, while Jared Taylor had a 6-4, 6-2 win for the Ravens at No. 3 singles. Mark Petrie rounded out singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No .5 singles for the win.

The Pride return to action next Thursday when they travel to former Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Gordon College for a 4:00 p.m. match. Franklin Pierce travels to Curry College on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
