LIONS SPOIL SPRING HOME OPENER FOR PRIDE

WESTON, Mass. – The visiting Emerson College Lions swept doubles play and took four-of-six singles matches en route to a 7-2 victory over the Regis College men's tennis team on Wednesday afternoon in the team's home opening match of the spring season. The Lions move to 1-0 on the season, while the Pride fall to 0-8 on the year.

Kevin Blisniuk (Buenos Aires, Argentina) won at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to lead the Lions. The sophomore defeated Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) (6-2, 6-2) in singles and teamed up with junior Steve Frend (Nynashamn, Sweden) in doubles play to defeat Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) and Beluch, 8-6. Frend added a victory in singles play over White at the No. 3 position by virtue of 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 set scores.

The Pride's Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) and Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.) recorded the lone wins of the day for Regis. Parrish beat Mitchell Lance (Tarrytown, N.Y.) of Emmanuel at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-0), and after posting set scores of 6-1, 6-2, Diallo was able to get past Matthew Clark (Tenafly, N.J.) in the No. 6 singles position.

Vincent Castellini (Grand Junction, Colo.) and Brent Walkoff (Bolton, Mass.) also had a strong showing for the Lions after winning in both singles and doubles play. Castellini defeated Matt Smolko (Pelham, N.H.) at No. 5 singles, 6-1 for both sets, while Walkoff defeated Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass.) at No. 4 singles (6-2, 6-2).

Castellini and teammate Roland Lewan (Madison, Ga.) teamed up at No. 3 doubles and beat Diallo and Nop, 8-1. Walkoff and Lance defeated Parrish and freshman Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.), 8-0 at the No. 2 doubles position.

The Pride will seek their first victory of the season when they host Lesley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23.
