PRIDE ADVANCE TO NECC CHAMPIONSHIP

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's tennis team defeated Lesley University, 8-1, on Wednesday afternoon in the New England Collegiate Conference Semifinals. Regis improves to 13-6 and has won eight-straight matches, while Lesley wraps up its season at 6-7 overall. The Pride advance to their first NECC Championship game and take on top-seeded Mitchell College on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

Regis took a 3-0 lead by sweeping all three doubles matches from the Lynx. Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) posted an 8-2 win over Nick Mattox (Pasadena, Md.) and Christian Domingo (Granada Hills, Calif.) in No. 1 doubles, while Jeffrie Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) and Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass.) teamed to beat Paolo DiPietrantonio (Cambridge, Mass.) and Mike Kaufman (Boca Raton, Fla.) at the No. 2 doubles spot. Matthew Smolko (Pelham, N.H.) and Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.) fought off a late rally from Thomas Tedesco (Bristol, R.I.) and Jimmy Paulsen (Monroe, Conn.) to hold onto an 8-6 win in No. 3 doubles.

The Pride won five of the six singles matches to secure the 8-1 win and a spot in the NECC Championship match. At No. 6 singles, Jonathon Dost clinched the deciding point of the match with his 6-3, 6-0 win over Jimmy Paulsen Beluch won his No. 1 singles matchup, 6-2, 6-1 over Mattox, while Sophorn Nop defeated Thomas Tedesco in the fourth singles position by matching scores of 6-4, 6-4. Matthew Smolko won his No. 5 single match, while Andy White took down Pailo DiPietrantonio in a pair of tiebreakers, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-4) at No. 2 singles.

Christian Domingo grabbed the lone point of the day for the Lynx with his 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) win over Jeffrie Parrish at No. 3 singles.

Regis takes on Mitchell College in the Pride's first NECC Championship match on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in New London, Conn. Lesley finishes its 2012 season at 6-7 overall.
