PRIDE CONTINUE WINNING WAYS AGAINST NIGHTHAWKS

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College posted its fourth win in its last five matches as the Pride defeated Newbury College, 8-1, in New England Collegiate Conference men's tennis action on Monday night in Weston, Mass. The Pride improves to 7-6 overall and 4-1 in the NECC, while Newbury falls to 0-4 and 0-3 in league games.

Regis took an early 3-0 lead in doubles play as Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) handed Gerard Font-Raventos (Barcelona, Spain) and John Morgan (Cumberland, R.I.) an 8-0 setback at the No. 1 doubles spot. Matthew Smolko (Pelham, N.H.) and Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.) continued the strong play as the duo took an 8-0 decision in the No. 2 doubles matchup against Wayne Gethers (Cambridge, Mass.) and John Seekins (Winthrop, Maine). The Pride won the final doubles matchup by default.

Regis took a 5-0 lead in singles play as Newbury was forced to forfeit the final two singles spots due to a limited roster. At No. 1 singles, Beluch defeated Font-Raventos 6-0, 6-0, and Jeffrie Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) grabbed a 6-0, 6-1 win at No.2 singles over Josh Morgan. Jonathon Dost (Taunton, Mass.) earned the final point of the day for the Pride with his 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 4 singles position over Josh Seekins.

Newbury's lone point of the contest came at the No. 3 singles spot as Wayne Gethers defeated Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass.). Gethers won the first set 6-1, but Nop rebounded to win the second set, 6-2. Gethers closed out Nop in the tiebreaker with a 10-5 win.

Regis looks to make it three-straight wins when the Pride travels to Becker College for an NECC match scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Newbury continues the search for its first win of the season on Tuesday as well, taking on Mitchell in a conference match at 6:30 p.m. on the campus of Regis College.
