LIONS ROAR PAST PRIDE 9-0 IN HOME OPENER

WESTON, Mass.- The Regis College men's tennis team was defeated by Eastern Nazarene College Saturday afternoon at the Regis College Tennis Courts by the score of 9-0. The loss moves the Pride to 2-5 overall on the season, while the Lions move to 7-5 on the season.

The Pride was led in doubles play by the duo of Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) and Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) who forced a well played match against the Lions Austin Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.). White and Parrish brought the match to within one point but could not force the tie-break, giving Steelman and Perron the match 8-6.

The Lions took the first and third doubles handily under the strong play of Sam McKay (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Sam Son (Wilbraham, Mass.) who took down the Pride's number one duo of Mike Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass.) 8-1 in the first match. Eric Johnson (Kingston, Mass.) and Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) finished the third doubles match with a victory against Regis teammates Matt Smolko (Pelham, Mass.) and Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.) 8-1.

Beluch fought a hard singles match against Steelman in number one singles falling 6-2, 6-1. McKay posted a 6-0, 6-1 tally against White, giving the Lions their fifth point on the match. Parrish stepped his game up in third singles spot taking three sets from Sam Son, but could not close the match falling 6-3, 6-1. Sophorn Nop and Eric Johnson met in the fourth singles matchup. Johnson was victorious defeating Nop 6-0, 6-1. Smolko faced Thompson in the fifth singles match and took three sets late in the competition. Thompson held strong and routed Smolko 6-0, 6-3. Diallo played Perron in the final match of the day and forced a competitive set, but ended falling 6-3, 6-3.

The Pride's next game is against Lesley University on Thursday March, 29 and will be played at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Nazarene will host Emerson College next Tuesday in its next matchup set from 3:30 p.m.
