Quincy, Mass.- The Regis Pride men's tennis
team lost to the Eastern
Nazarene Lions 7-2, fighting back in the singles matches after
losing
all three doubles matches. The Pride played well with solid
team participation as the
Lions picked up their third straight win in The Commonwealth
Coast
Conference. The Lions move to 5-3 in TCCC play and are 9-6
overall.
The Pride moves to 1-7 in the TCCC and 1-14 on the season.
Austin Steelman and Brandon Lum picked up a win to open up
doubles play defeating Andy White (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman) and
Jeffrie Parrish (Framingham, Mass./Framingham).
Eric Johnson andTim Luz followed with a solid win over Daniel
Berdichevsky (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) and Matthew Smolko (Pelham,
NH/Lowell Catholic). Nick Thompson and Ryan Robbins defeated
Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass./Lowell Catholic)and Mouhamed Diallo
(Boston, Mass./Cours Sainte Marie de Hann). Nop and Diallo played
well improving on previous attempts.
Steelman set the tone for Eastern Nazarene quickly defeating
Berdichevsky 6-1, 6-1. The singles win marks Steelman's seventh
win in
conference play this season.
The Pride picked up it's first point of the day as Parrish
outlasted Lum in
a three set match, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. This was the first win of the
year for Parrish who has been playing well over the past few
matches.
Matt Smolko won the second Regis point of the afternoon in a
comeback win over Johnson in the #4 slot. Johnson won the first set
6-0 but Smolko
rebounded well winning 6-3 and 7-6.
The Lions will have their next contest Thursday (Apr. 14)
as they host Nichols College at 3:30 p.m.
The Pride’s next match is set for Saturday (Apr. 16) against Colby-Sawyer College.
