FIDALGO MARKS FIRST WIN IN PROGRAM HISTORY

Weston, Mass.—Sophomore Josh Fidalgo (Dorchester, Mass.) marked the first individual win in men’s tennis program history Saturday. Fidalgo, also a soccer player, defeated his Anna Maria College opponent in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Fidalgo’s win, however, would not be enough to give Regis College the outright win.

The Pride was defeated 8-1 by the AMCats, and fall to 0-9 overall with two matches remaining. A match versus Lesley University could be rescheduled, but no date has been set.

Head coach John Ciarleglio feels that his team is making improvement with freshman Matt Smolko (Pelham, Mass.) playing in the No. 1 singles position, and winning four games in his second set.

Ciarleglio also felt that teammates Tserin Choephel and and Doug Dunbar played, “tough and solid,” versus two very good competitors. Choephel lost 7-5 and 6-4 respectively, while Dunbar lost 6-3 in both sets in the No. 5 singles position.

Regis will return to the court April 21 when it travels to conference opponent Gordon College. That match is slated for a 4:00 p.m. start.
