Men’s Soccer Loses Fast-Paced Contest Against Lasell

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College was edged out, 3-2, by Lasell University Wednesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer action at Regis Stadium.

Lasell struck first in the ninth minute of play when Jonathan Martinez threw the ball in past the Regis defenders and towards Jaydon Perez, who scored to put the visitors up by one. The Pride first scored on a bang-bang play beginning with Luke Ayotte (Cromwell, Conn.) passing the ball to Aidan Falvey (Medford, Mass.), who sent it across the front of the net to Santiago Pedraza Novak (Bogota, Colombia) as he finished the play by heading the ball into the net, tying the game at 1-1.

The second Regis goal came just ten minutes after the first when Falvey made another cross in front of the net, this time finding Zack Acciardo (Derry, N.H.), who scored to give the Pride a one-goal advantage. The Lasers struck back as Martinez earned another assist off a throw-in, this time finding Daniel Faynstein who scored to tie the game at two goals apiece.

After four goals in the first half, the pace slowed significantly with the game-winner being the only goal scored in the second half. The Lasers rattled off three consecutive shots in the 65th minute of play with the third shot coming from Michael Guzzone who scored to put Lasell on top for good.

Freddie Beckmann (Franklin, Mass.) made seven saves in net for the Pride with Ethan Donahue (Methuen, Mass.) making two saves while Beckmann took a brief break early in the match. Cameron McDonough played the entirety of the game in goal for the Lasers, finishing with four saves.

The Pride took nine corner kicks compared to five by Lasell while both teams finished with a similar number of shots as the Lasers edged out Regis 19-17.
