Men’s Soccer Loses Non-Conference Match at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Regis College lost to MIT, 2-0, Monday night in a non-conference men's collegiate soccer match at Steinbrenner Stadium.

MIT (3-4) quickly applied pressure to the Regis defense as Garrett Robinson took the first two shots of the match within the opening four minutes, with the second one stopped by Pride keeper Freddie Beckmann (Franklin, Mass.).

Eight minutes into the contest, the Engineers drew a corner kick and converted the set piece as Richter Brzeski sent the ball into the box, Jack Minor headed it across the goal mouth, and Rami Bikdash tapped it into the net for his third goal of the season.

In the 21st minute, MIT had a chance to extend its lead, but Beckmann turned away a point-blank opportunity from Brzeski. Just over two minutes later, the Engineers drew a foul within the box, and Bikdash converted on the penalty kick attempt to earn his second tally of the night.

Regis' best scoring opportunity of the night came one-and-a-half minutes later, as Nick Cardenas (Hudson, N.H.) sent a blast on goal that the Engineer defense sent away to help their keeper Zachary Zhang. In the 28th minute, the Pride drew a corner kick chance, with Zack Acciardo (Derry, N.H.) sending the ball into the box, but the shot by Stephen Allsopp II (Medford, Mass.) was stopped by Zhang.

The Engineers controlled the possession throughout the second half, finishing with a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal. Beckmann was credited with 10 saves in 77 minutes of action before Kyle Weidemann (Piscataway, N.J.) took over in net for the final 13 minutes.

Regis College (3-3) returns to Great Northeast Athletic Conference play with a trip to face Dean College Wednesday, Sept. 21, for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. The Pride then host University of Saint Joseph in the final contest of a Regis Fest tripleheader at Regis Stadium Saturday, Sept. 24, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
