Regis Men's Soccer Pulls into 1-1 Draw Saturday

NASHUA, N.H. – Regis College went to double overtime Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's collegiate soccer match against Rivier University that ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Raiders drew first blood, capitalizing on a penalty kick in the 38th minute of play to give Rivier a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
 
The Raiders held onto their lead until the 68th minute when Jacob Freitas (Dracut, Mass.) tied the match with an unassisted goal. It was Freitas's team-leading fifth goal of the season. The 1-1 stalemate would continue through two overtime periods, resulting in the draw.
 
Regis was able to edge out Rivier on shots, 15-10, while the Pride also took seven corner kicks throughout the match. Regis was led on offense by Zack Acciardo (Derry, N.H.) with five shots.
 
Pride goalie Freddie Beckmann (Franklin, Mass.) accumulated three saves on the night. For the Raiders, Sebastian Lembo and Dominic Cunha split time in net, combining for four saves.
 
Regis (6-7-2, 4-5-2 GNAC) concludes the regular season Wednesday, Oct. 27, as they head to Boston to face off against Emmanuel College beginning at 8 p.m.
