Regis Men’s Soccer Loses GNAC Contest

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College lost to Albertus Magnus College, 6-0, Wednesday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer match at Regis Stadium.

Albertus Magnus attacked the Regis defense right from the start, advancing the ball into a scoring opportunity in the third minute as Kelvin Cortez's shot needed to be cleared away by Pride defender Brevin Frankel (Millbury, Mass.). The Falcons broke through in the 20th minute when Abdoul Aremu stole the ball and found the lower left corner of the net with the ensuing shot.

The Falcons played one man up starting late in the first half after a Regis red card and took advantage of that in the second half, starting with a goal by Carlos Lopez off an assist from Cortez just 1:44 after halftime. Cortez earned his own tally on a penalty kick in the 64th minute, followed by a goal from Denis Blandon less than five minutes later.

Albertus Magnus continued to pressure the defense, earning another goal in the 71st minute when Allan Fernandez assisted on a tally by Fillipe Mouroa. The Falcons' final goal of the match came in the 74th minute as Orantay Blake scored his first goal of the season.

The visitors finished with 19 shots, led by Cortez with five total shots, while Regis was held to five shots, including three shots on goal. Garfield Robinson earned the clean sheet for the Falcons with three saves, while Pride goalie Freddie Beckmann (Franklin, Mass.) finished with four saves in the match.

Before the match, the seniors on the Regis men's soccer team were joined by their families in a Senior Night presentation.
