Men’s Soccer Loses at Saint Joseph’s College

STANDISH, Maine – Regis College lost to Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 4-1, Wednesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer contest at the SJC Athletic Complex.

Saint Joseph's College started strong, keeping possession in its offensive end and creating several scoring chances, including one shot that hit the crossbar and two others turned away by Regis goalie Ivan Ramirez (San Juan, Puerto Rico). In the 19th minute, Colin Grant's shot hit the post, but Aidan Hickey converted on the rebound to put the Monks on top.

The home team continued to control the play, eventually drawing a corner kick opportunity in the 33rd minute. Austin Ward started the set play, and Jarred Greenleaf also earned an assist on a goal by Kuma Onyejose to give the Monks a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Less than four minutes into the second half, the Monks struck again, as Ward earned a goal off an assist by Noah Elmore. In the 61st minute, Elmore would pick up another assist as Onyejose collected his second goal of the match to extend the Monk lead to 4-0.

The Pride finally broke through, answering the Saint Joseph's goal with a tally by Alfred Bresnahan (Marblehead, Mass.), his second goal of the season. It would be the only shot on goal for the Pride as they were held to three total shots while the Monks finished with 23 shots, including 12 shots on goal.

Ramirez finished with seven saves before Kyle Weidemann (Piscataway, N.J.) took over for the final three-and-a-half minutes and was credited with one save. David Walbridge started in net for the Monks and played just over 60 minutes before Mike Sheridan replaced him.

Regis College (4-3, 2-2 GNAC) will play two home matches in three days, starting Saturday, Oct. 2, against Norwich beginning at 5 p.m. The Pride then host Elms College Monday, Oct. 4, starting at 7 p.m.
