Men’s Soccer Loses to Regionally Ranked MIT

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College fell to MIT, 3-0, Monday afternoon in a non-conference collegiate men's soccer match at Regis Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, MIT broke through four-and-a-half minutes into the second half when Peter Novoa sent a pass from the right wing into the box, where Will Seiple collected it and connected on a shot into the net for his third goal of the season. In the 58th minute, Novoa received a pass in the box, avoided the Regis defense, and converted on a scoring opportunity to give the Engineers a 2-0 lead.

Regis quickly gained possession and attacked the Engineer net, but a shot by Zack Acciardo (Derry, N.H.) was turned away by MIT goalie Paarth Desai. Later, off a long throw-in into the box, Diego Roman (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) jumped up and met the ball for a header, but Desai caught it before it could cross the goal line.

The Engineers concluded the scoring with 17 minutes remaining in the second half as Richter Brzeski blasted a free kick into the net. For the match, MIT outshot Regis, 16-5, with Desai earning the victory on two saves while Freddie Beckmann (Franklin, Mass.) also made two saves in net for the Pride.

This was the first meeting all-time in men's soccer between Regis and MIT. In last week's United Soccer Coaches polls, the Engineers received votes in the national top 25 poll and placed third in the Region II rankings.
