Beckmann, Freitas Earn GNAC MSOC Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. – After victories over Lesley and Anna Maria for the Regis College men's soccer team, senior Freddie Beckmann (Franklin, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Week and sophomore Jacob Freitas (Dracut, Mass.) has been named the GNAC Rookie of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Against Anna Maria, Beckmann earned his second victory of the season as he made four total saves, two in each half. He was challenged right away in the seventh minute, and then he kept the Pride within one goal with another save in the 35th minute.

After Regis took its 2-1 lead with 13 minutes remaining in regulation, Beckmann was called upon to stop Anna Maria from tying the match, making saves in the 82nd and 85th minutes. With the final seconds ticking down, the AMCATS sent a long pass towards the Pride net, but Beckmann was able to slide and corral the ball before an opposing player could catch up to it.

Freitas, in his first season of collegiate competition, continued to help the Regis offense succeed. Wednesday, he scored two goals, including the first goal of the match after dribbling the ball through the Lesley defense from midfield before shooting it into the net.

With just over 13 minutes remaining in regulation Saturday against Anna Maria, he created the scoring opportunity for the eventual game-winning tally, picking up the assist on the play. Freitas currently leads the team with three goals and seven total points.

Beckmann and Freitas, each earning the first league weekly honor of their respective careers, become the first Regis men's soccer student-athletes to collect a GNAC weekly award since Ivan Ramirez received GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors Oct. 7, 2019.

Regis (3-0-0, 1-0-0 GNAC) heads to Providence, R.I., to face Johnson & Wales next Friday evening, Sept. 17, starting at 6 p.m.
