BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Regis College scored with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation to defeat Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 1-0, Saturday night in a non-conference men's collegiate soccer match at Clean Harbors Stadium.

As the match moved into the final 10 minutes, Regis drew a corner kick and was able to maintain possession after the play. In the 83rd minute, Aidan Falvey (Medford, Mass.) sent a pass from the left side of the field to the right side, where Jacob Freitas (Dracut, Mass.) corralled the ball and beat the Buccaneer goalie with a shot into the lower right corner of the net for his first career collegiate tally.

The action stayed in the midfield for most of the first half until Santiago Pedraza Novak (Bogota, Colombia) was able to create the first serious scoring chance, but his shot was stopped by Buccaneer goalie John Murphy. The Pride had another opportunity in the final minute of the first half, but a header by Damien Booker (Boston, Mass.) sailed wide.

The Pride attacked the goal at the start of the second half, but a shot by Federico Lavini-Ayalla (Weston, Fla.) rolled just to the right of the net. With about 17 minutes left in regulation, the Buccaneers enjoyed their best scoring chance of the half, as Dalton Deroscher's shot on goal challenged Regis goalie Freddie Beckmann (Franklin, Mass.).

Beckmann notched two saves as he earned the second clean sheet of his collegiate career, while Murphy was also credited with two saves for Massachusetts Maritime. Freitas and Pedraza Novak led the Pride with two shots each, and Ryan Soughou led the Buccaneers with two of the team's five total shots.

Regis (1-0-0) plays its first home match of the season next Wednesday, Sept. 8, against Lesley University starting at 4 p.m. at Regis Stadium. Links to live stats and live video will be available on GoRegisPride.com.
