Ivan Ramirez Earns GNAC Goalkeeper of Week Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. – After keeping Regis College competitive in its match against preseason Great Northeast Athletic Conference favorite Saint Joseph's College and holding Anna Maria College scoreless, sophomore goalkeeper Ivan Ramirez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) has been named the GNAC Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Ramirez did not allow a goal from the opposing team in his two starts over the past week, as the only goal was an own goal kicked into the net by a Pride defender. Last Thursday against the Monks, he collected a career-high eight saves in the narrow 1-0 loss.

Saturday, he started against Anna Maria and made five saves, including three saves in the first 12 minutes to keep the match scoreless before the Pride offense erupted in a 4-0 win. Ramirez earned the victory over the AMCATS, his first career collegiate win, as Regis picked up its first conference victory of the 2019 season.

For the season, Ramirez has started six matches in net for the Pride, including the last three contests in a row. He has compiled a 1.45 goals against average and an .800 save percentage with 32 total saves, currently tied for fourth in the GNAC in save percentage.

Ramirez earns the first GNAC weekly award for the men's soccer team in 2019, and it is the first honor for the Pride soccer program since Jesse Bonilla was named Goalkeeper of the Week Oct. 15, 2018.

Regis plays two important GNAC road contests this week, traveling to face Albertus Magnus Wednesday, Oct. 9, starting at 7:30 p.m. and Suffolk Saturday, Oct. 12, beginning at 3 p.m. The Pride close out the regular season with five home matches within six games, commencing Monday, Oct. 14, against Pine Manor at 1 p.m.
