Jesse Bonilla Named GNAC Goalkeeper of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – After starting all three matches over the past week where Regis College emerged victorious without allowing a goal, senior Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Bonilla started last Monday's match at Pine Manor, a team that entered the contest with a 7-2-1 record and a 2.7 goals per match scoring average, and shut out the Gators in the first half, making three saves along the way. The Pride notched a goal late in regulation to defeat the Gators on their home field, 1-0.

Wednesday, he played the entire match against Rivier, earning his third clean sheet of the season with three saves as the Pride moved up in the league standings thanks to a 6-0 win over the Raiders. Bonilla wrapped up the week by playing the first half against Becker Saturday, once again collecting three saves without allowing a goal as Regis established an early advantage on its way to a 5-0 victory.

For the season, Bonilla is 6-4-1 with a 1.62 goals against average and a .717 save percentage with 43 total saves. He has not allowed a goal in his last 226:42 of action between the pipes, and he is fourth in the GNAC among goalie in victories this year.

This is the first conference weekly award for any member of the Regis men's soccer team this season. Bonilla picks up this third career GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week Award, previously receiving the honor Sept. 18, 2017, and Oct. 30, 2017.

Regis, currently 7-4-2 overall, continues a regular season-ending four-match homestand with its final two conference matches of 2018, hosting Anna Maria Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 5 p.m. and Colby-Sawyer Saturday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. The Pride have 11 points (3-4-2) in GNAC play and need one more victory to clinch a spot in the upcoming GNAC Tournament.
