PRIDE PLACE THREE ON ALL-NECC TEAMS

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's soccer team placed three members of its squad on the New England Collegiate Conference All-NECC Teams, it was announced this morning. Forward Steve Tavares (Bellingham, Mass.) was named to the All-NECC First Team, while midfielder Angel Aguilar (Silver Spring, Md.) and goalkeeper Stefan Todorovic (Los Angeles, Calif.) were named to the league's Second Team.

It was a record year for the Pride (8-11) in 2012 as they posted the most wins in a season in program history (8), qualified for the program's first postseason, and picked up its first postseason win with a 1-0 victory over Daniel Webster College in the NECC Quarterfinals. Regis saw its season come to an end with a 1-0 setback in the NECC Semfinals to the league's runner-up, Lesley University.

Senior Steve Tavares had one of the best seasons in the history of the program with 13 goals and a pair of assists in 2012. Two of his goals were of the game-winning variety, and he finished second in the league in both goals scored and points (28). Tavares now holds the program record for career points with 35, goals in a career with 16, goals in a season with 13, and set the record for goals in a game with four tallies in a 13-0 win over Fisher College.

Angel Aguilar was named to his first All-NECC Team in 2012. The junior tied for the team-lead with five assists and finished tied for fifth in the league in that category. With his five assists, Aguilar is now tied for the program lead in single season assists and career assists with eight helpers.

Goalkeeper Stefan Todorovic was also named to his first All-NECC Team. The junior made 58 saves and posted four shutouts in 2012. His .716 save percentage was good for seventh in the conference, while his 1.59 GAA ranked him fourth in the league. Todorovic allowed 23 goals in 2012 with only nine of those coming in conference play.

Lesley University took home several of the major awards including Ari Sinanis (Guilford, Conn.) being named the NECC Player of the Year and his teammate Nigel Leahy (New Paltz, N.Y.) being named the Goalkeeper of the Year. Lynx head coach Paul Vasconccelos was named the Coach of the Year and his Lesley team also took home the Sportsmanship Award. Elms freshman Gerard Lawler (Langwarrin, Victoria, Australia) was named the NECC Rookie of the Year.
