CHARRON'S TWO GOALS SPARK PRIDE WIN

CHARRON'S TWO GOALS SPARK PRIDE WIN

WESTON, Mass. – Freshman Kenny Charron (West Warwick, R.I.) scored a pair of first half goals to help lead the Regis College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Becker College on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference action. The Pride improves to 6-9 overall on the year and 3-2 in the NECC, while Becker falls to 3-12 and 2-3 in league games.

The Pride controlled play as they outshot the Hawks at a 32-4 clip for the game and held a 9-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Charron's first goal of the day came off some nifty passing by the Pride. Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) sent a through ball up the left sideline to a streaking Renato Rosas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.). Rosas carried the ball a few more yards before crossing the ball into the box, where Becker's keeper Tim MacDonald (Holden, Mass.) got a hand on the ball, but could not stop the cross as it landed at the feet of Charron, who tapped it into the open net.

Nearly eight minutes later, it was another nice pass from Angel Aguilar (Silver Spring, Md.) that sprang Charron to a one-on-one with Becker's MacDonald. Charron won the matchup with a nice crossover dribble and blasted the ball opposite post for his second tally of the day.

Regis had several tries to tack on an extra score in the second frame. The NECC's leading scorer Steve Tavares (Bellingham, Mass.) had a pair of opportunities to add to his total, but he was stoned by MacDonald once and sailed a shot just high off a rebound off the post on a shot by Renato Rosas. Neither team could find the back of the net in the second half as Charron's two goals stood up as the deciding score.

Becker's best opportunities of the day came off the feet of Bao Tao (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam). In the first half, Tao received a through ball from Albert Tabor (Willimantic, Conn.) that led to a scoring chance, but Regis' Nick Tavares (Bellingham, Mass.) raced back on defense and blocked the shot wide. Bao Tao had a pair of opportunities in the second half off Regis turnovers, but his first attempt sailed wide and his next one, only 43 second later, was stopped by Chris Campbell (South Hadley, Mass.).

The Pride's Stefan Todorovic (Los Angeles, Calif.) picked up his fifth win of the season in net. Chris Campbell made the Pride's lone save of the day while playing the entire second half. Becker's Tim Macdonald made 13 saves in the setback and drops to 2-9 this year.

The Crimson and Gold return to action next Saturday when they host Southern Vermont College in a 4:00 p.m. game and celebrate their annual Senior Day. Becker looks to bounce back on Monday night when they host Curry College in a non-league game at 7:00 p.m.
