TWO LATE GOALS LIFT DWC OVER PRIDE

TWO LATE GOALS LIFT DWC OVER PRIDE

NASHUA, N.H. – On a day when steady rain and slick conditions kept shots on goal few and corner kicks even fewer, the Daniel Webster men's soccer team made the most of their opportunities – or in this case their one opportunity.

Sophomore Erick Bourdeau (Alton Bay, N.H.) headed home a Joey Morgan (Windham, N.H.) corner kick – DWC's only attempt from the corner of the game - with 14:57 remaining in regulation and the score stood up as Daniel Webster came from behind and held off Regis, 2-1 in an important New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) matchup at rainy Eagle Field Wednesday.

Bourdeau's winner, his team-leading fourth goal of the season, was spot-on as the rangy defender outmuscled the defense inside and was unchallenged as he redirected the play past Pride keeper Stefan Todorovic (Los Angeles, Cal.).

The win helped even the Eagles NECC mark at 2-2 (3-8-2 overall) and gave the squad its second straight conference victory. Regis moved to 5-9 overall (2-2 NECC).

DWC had tied it just minutes before as Alex Towne (Northfield, Mass.) converted a nifty cross pass from Max Howe (Concord, N.H.) in the 69th minute. DWC took advantage after a Regis midfield transition play broke down, and Howe headed down the left side to find Towne coming straight down the chute. Towne then sent a low 25-yarder to the far left corner to beat Todorovic and tie it.

Regis had taken a 1-0 lead into intermission on Ricardo Argueta's (Los Angeles) strike, a rare, 45-yarder that came on a long free kick that took a high hop off the slick surface and bounced over Eagle keeper Sean Hamilton (Brookline, N.H.), who had been the aggressor attempting to knock it down.

Hamilton would finish with four saves on the day, while Todorovic made three stops for the visitors.

The game was physical throughout with 19 fouls whistled, but the slick conditions helped stymie much of the offense. Regis finished with an 11-7 total shots advantage but both teams only managed five shots on goal.

Regis had one golden opportunity to tie it with 11 minutes remaining as Steve Tavares' (Bellingham, Mass.) shot 10 yards out clanged off the crossbar.

The teams also combined for just three corner kicks with Regis attempting two. In the hosts Eagles' case, they made the most of their one opportunity.

Regis looks to bounce back on Saturday as they host Becker College in a league game at 12:00 p.m. DWC returns to action on Saturday when the visit Lesley in a NECC meeting beginning at 3:30 p.m.
