TAVARES NETS FOUR IN REGIS VICTORY

WESTON, Mass. – Senior Steve Tavares (Bellingham, Mass.) scored four goals and added an assist as Regis College defeated visiting Fisher College, 13-0, in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon in Weston, Mass. The Pride improves to 1-2 overall with their first win of the season, while Fisher College drops its season opener to fall to 0-1.

Five players for Regis scored their first career goals, including junior captain Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.). Freshmen Renato Rosas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Christian Mukala (Malden, Mass.), Kenny Charron (West Warwick, R.I.), and Chris Anderson (Framingham, Mass.) each scored their first collegiate goals for the Pride as well.

Rosas got the scoring started for the Pride as he took control of a loose ball in the box and converted it into his first goal at the 37 minute mark for an early 1-0 lead. Jeff Parrish added his first career score 13 minutes later when Ricardo Arguetta (Los Angeles, Calif.) crossed it to Parrish at the top of the box, where he promptly blasted it home for the 2-0 lead.

Angel Aguilar (Silver Springs, Md.) found Christian Mukala in the box to give Regis a 3-0 lead, and Steve Tavares scored his first goal of the game with just one second remaining in the half to give the Pride a 4-0 advantage headed into the break.

Regis outshot the Falcons at a 27-1 clip in the opening period and took 10 corner kicks to Fisher's zero. Fisher's Steven Masterson (Berkley, Mass.) made 10 saves in the first half, while Dominc Zahar (Chelmsford, Mass.) took the lone shot of the period for the Falcons.

Kenny Charron began the second half scoring on a cross in front of the net off the foot of Sean Crawford (Framingham, Mass.) to make it a five goal lead. Sean O'Brien (Westerly, R.I.) and Chris Anderson added goals nearly a minute apart, before Tavares scored back-to-back goals on feeds from Crawford and Chris Millington (Huntington, N.Y.) to take an 8-0 lead.

Charron added one more before Tavares netted his fourth of the game on a turnover that led to a 1-on-1 with the keeper. Chris Millington then entered the scoring column on a pass from Nana Kwarteng (Milford, Mass.), and Sean O'Brien rounded out the scoring on a pass from Charron for the Pride's 13-0 victory.

The Pride held a 52-1 advantage in shots, and held a 13-0 edge in corner kicks for the game. Regis' Dillon Lanctot (Somersworth, N.H.) picked up the win in net in his first start, facing one shot, while Chris Campbell (South Hadley, Mass.) finished out the second half for his first game action of the year. Fisher's Masterson finished the game with 14 saves while falling to 0-1.

Regis returns to action on Saturday afternoon as the Pride hosts Emerson College in a non-conference game scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Fisher looks for its first win of the year on Sunday when the Falcons travel to Vermont Tech for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
