GONCALVES TAKES CHARGE, LEADS PRIDE IN 2-1 VICTORY

Weston, Mass.-Knotting the match at a goal each, John Goncalves (Framingham, Mass.) scored Regis' first goal on a penalty kick, then led the Pride to a 2-1 victory over conference opponent Colby-Sawyer College.

Colby-Sawyer (1-9, 0-7 TCCC) opened with the first score of the game on a shot by Brian Lombard (Ipswich, Mass.) at 30:55. Lombard was assisted to goal by Tyler Stotz (Amesbury, Mass.).

A tough The Commonwealth Coast Conference battled continued well into the second period before Kennedy was fouled in the box by a Charger player, giving Regis College its first scoring opportunity.

Preparing to take his shot, Kennedy lined up left aiming to his right, struck the ball with force to the left of Colby-Sawyer keeper Chris Feltes (Manchester, N.H.). Feltes finished his day with eight saves for Colby-Sawyer.

Scoring in the 72nd minute, and equaling the score at a goal each, Regis continued to attack the Charger defense. The first period was clearly owned by the Chargers, taking 15 shots at Regis keeper Andrew LaMacchia (Lynn, Mass.).

With a conference win on the line for each team, the pressure to keep the other from scoring became aggressive. Five total players were issued yellow cards during match.

Seven Chargers attempted scores, with Lombard and James Longe (Richford, V.T.) leading the way with six apiece. Pete Kenny (Longmeadow, Mass.) followed with four.

Sophomore Josh Fidalgo (Dorchester, Mass.) led the way for Regis with five goals. With Kennedy tying the game a Regis corner kick by Shawn McDonough (Framingham, Mass.) would fall into the hands of Feltes to end regulation.

Stotz would again appear for the Chargers taking an open shot on net in the extra period. With Longe having missed from the left side of the net, the rebound fell to the feet of Stotz.

Striking with his left foot on an apparent empty net, LaMacchia would dive to make one of his 14 saves on the night.

LaMacchia would clear the ball to midfield where Fidalgo would dribble past his defender before pushing the ball through to the feet of Kennedy.

Kennedy would dribble between two defenders before finding himself alone against Felts. With Felts out of the box Kennedy made his move left, striking the ball back to right side of the net to give Regis the lead and win in overtime.
