LIONS SLIP PAST REGIS IN TCCC MATCH

LIONS SLIP PAST REGIS IN TCCC MATCH

Quincy, Mass. October 28, 2009.  The Eastern Nazarene mens soccer program ended their 2009 season with a 1-0 win against The Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Regis College tonight at Quincy's Veterans Memorial Stadium.  The win was the teams second in a row, both by shutout.

Windy conditions dictated much of the play.  Playing with the wind in the first half, the Lions controlled play and out shot the visiting Pride, 9-1, but did not find the net.  Late in the half, Corey Knudsen (W. Wareham, Mass.) had the best chance by either team with a blast from 25 yards out, but Pride keeper Andrew LaMacchia (Lynn, Mass.) was equal to the task and pushed the ball over the crossbar.

In the second half, the Pride played with the wind as the two teams managed seven shots a piece.  Midway through the half, Brendan Douglas (Alton, NH) sent Chris Scearbo (Georgetown, Mass.) through to goal with a pass that Scearbo finished well, on a hard bending shot with the outside of his foot, past LaMacchia, giving the Lions the 1-0 lead.

Although the Pride kept the ball on their offensive side of the field for the remainder of the game, Lions keeper Andrew Trice (Quincy, Mass.) kept the visitors from scoring, recording his second shut out of the season, while making 5 saves.  Pride keeper Andrew LaMacchia made 5 saves of his own while one goal made it through the pipes.

Eastern Nazarene held the advantage in shots, 17-8, and Regis held the 8-3 advantage in corners.

Eastern Nazarene finishes the season at 2-16-1, 1-11-1 in the TCCC while Regis ends the season at 4-14, 2-11 in the TCCC.
