THONGSYTHAVONG SETS TONE, PRIDE FALL 2-1

Weston, Mass.-Regis College (4-11, 2-8 TCCC) dropped its homecoming match 2-1 to Anna Maria (9-6, 5-5 TCCC) Saturday. Wade Thongsythavong (Salem, Mass.) took just 3:00 to score the Pride's first and only goal.

Thongsythavong scored from just within the box with his left foot. Teammate Shawn McDonough (Framingham, Mass.) assisted on the score.

A physical game continued for 41 minutes while Regis held the lead. Anna Maria's George Markopoulos scored the AMCats first goal in the 44th minute. His two scores on the night, the second being at 72:32, would both go unassisted.

Accuracy played a huge role in the AMCats strategy. Taking 16 shots total, 13 were on goal for Anna Maria. Regis managed just five and three respectively.

Pride keeper Andrew LaMacchia (Lynn, Mass.) was credited with 11 saves, but that number speaks little to the dramatic effort of the saves. Anna Maria's Justin Hyland took a shot with his left foot, hitting just inside the right post.

His shot would rebound to the feet of Markopoulous, who would shoot with his right foot, but the fingertips of LaMacchia snagged a sure goal for Anna Maria.

Regis will play out its season on the road, with its next match versus The Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Western New England Oct. 20. Anna Maria heads to Salve Regina.
