PRIDE NOT ENOUGH TO SLOW NOR'EASTERS, REGIS FALLS 5-0

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sophomores Owen Evans (West Stockbridge, Mass.) and Kiel Hiller (Galloway, N.J.) each scored a goal in both halves to help the University of New England men's soccer team to its fourth consecutive victory with a 5-0 shutout of Regis College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match Tuesday evening.

Hiller added two assists to his two-goal effort for a season-high six points. Evans' two-goal performance was the first multi-goal effort of his career. Senior Dylan Saucier (Windham, Maine) rounded out UNE's scoring with his third tally in four matches.

Junior Jon Planer (Yarmouth, Maine) made two saves over the opening 81:53 to register the victory. Senior Trevor Secord (Keene, N.H.) came on in relief of Planer.

Evans got the hosts on the board in the sixth minute when he collected a pass from Hiller and found the back of the net with a left-footed shot. Junior Cody Lapointe (Yarmouth, Maine) started the play and was credited with an assist.

The Nor'easters doubled their lead less than seven minutes later when senior John-Michael Cascio (Topsfield, Mass.) launched a service from the right corner. Hiller brought the ball down and ripped a high shot past the Regis keeper for the first of his two goals.

The Pride held UNE off the scoreboard from that point until Evans, Saucier and Hiller converted in the final 20 minutes for the final margin of 5-0.

The Nor'easters (5-1, 3-0 TCCC) held a 28-3 advantage in shots and 6-0 cushion in corner kicks.

Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew LaMacchia (Lynn, Mass.) was busy all evening for Regis (2-6, 0-3). He recorded 12 stops.

UNE, which last won four straight matches in 1997, will look to make it five straight Saturday when Endicott College comes to town for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
