PRIDE PROWL PAST NIGHTHAWKS, WIN SECOND STRAIGHT

The Newbury College men's soccer team lost their home opener in a tough battle with Regis College Thursday afternoon, 1-0. Freshman Juan Deleon (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) scored the lone goal for the Pride mid-way through the first half to give the Pride the victory.

For nearly the first 20 minutes of action it was a tight contest with the scored knotted at zero. At 18:41 Deleon found the back of the net from a feed by sophomore Shawn McDonough (Framingham, MA/Framingham) to give the Pride the 1-0 advantage.

Freshman Shaundize Moosavizadeh (Winchester, MA/Winchester) was solid for the Nighthawks in the loss. The Winchester native had a team-high three shots while teammate senior Hayato Iwahori (Tokyo, Japan/Meguro-Gakuin) followed up with two shots. Freshman goalkeeper Steven Gratta (Hull, MA/Hull) was also solid in the contest providing three key saves to keep the Nighthawks deficit to just one point.

With the loss, the Nighthawks fall to 0-2 on the season. Newbury will look to pick up their first win when they return to the pitch Saturday afternoon at 12:00pm to host the Engineers from M.I.T.
