PRIDE CLAW FIRST WIN IN PROGRAM HISTORY IN 2-1 VICTORY

Weston, Mass.-Competing in the Southern Vermont Tournament, Regis College defeated Rivier College 2-1, marking the Pride's first win in its two-year program history.

Freshman Keith Mahoney (Bradenton, Fla.) scored the team's first goal at 24:01 from an assist from John Goncalves (Framingham, Mass.). Goncalves would also assist Josh Fidalgo (Dorchester, Mass.) three minutes into the second period.

Mahoney had a team-high five shots, while sophomore Wade Thongsythavong (Salem, Mass.) and Fidalgo tied with three. Seven Regis players would attempt to score Sunday.

The Pride out shot the Raiders 17-9. Regis took a majority of its shots in the second period, with the Rivier keeper making six saves.

Andrew LaMacchia (Lynn, Mass.), the NCAA second ranked player in saves, had two saves in the game. The Regis defense allowed only nine shots.

In the consolation game Rivier pinned the first lead with a goal from Ford Coates on an assist from Chris Nugent in the 23rd minute of play. But the Pride did not wait long to strike as Keith Mahoney scored on a assist from John Goncalves to make it 1-1 going into the 2nd period of play.

After the half Regis took the lead for good with a goal from Josh Fidalgo on a beautifully placed corner kick by Goncalves to make it 2-1 Regis.

Andrew LaMacchia got the win at the net for the Pride as he grabbed two saves.
