Men’s Lacrosse Cruises to Home Victory

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College got back on the winning track as eight different players earned points to lead the Pride to a 18-1 victory over MCLA Saturday afternoon in a non-conference men's collegiate lacrosse match at Regis Stadium.

Four players notched hat tricks, led by Jack Jaynes (Reading, Mass.) with four goals. Nick Klein (Buxton, Maine), Matt Cabassa (Weymouth, Mass.), and Anthony Marsella (Johnston, R.I.) earned three goals apiece, with Marsella also collecting four assists to tie Brendan Cook (Billerica, Mass.), who had two goals and five assists, for the team lead with seven points apiece.

Off an assist from Connor Deveau (Harwich, Mass.), Klein scored the first goal of the match with just 53 seconds elapsed. Six different Regis players scored in the first period as Regis raced out to a 7-0 lead, followed by five goals in the second quarter to extend the Pride advantage to 12-0 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Regis scored five goals, including consecutive goals by Marsella set up by Cook eight seconds apart. MCLA finally broke through in the fourth quarter thanks to an unassisted goal by Luke Rhoss, with Jaynes closing out the scoring later in the final quarter off Cook's fifth assist of the contest.

Devin Hammon (Chicopee, Mass.) started the match in net and made three saves in the first quarter for the Pride. Ryan Guerrette (Litchfield, N.H.) made his first career collegiate appearance at the start of the second quarter and played the rest of the match, making eight saves and posting a .889 save percentage.

For MCLA, Anthony Andolina and James Julian led the team with five groundballs each, while Lucan McGrath paced the Trailblazer defensive effort with three caused turnovers. Boden Dock played the entire match in net for MCLA and finished with 13 saves.

Regis College (4-1) returns to conference action next Saturday, March 23, at New England College starting at 4 p.m. MCLA (0-5) will host SUNY Poly Wednesday, March 27, starting at 7 p.m.
