Men's Lacrosse Loses to USJ in Home Opener

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College was defeated by the University of Saint Joseph, 13-6, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse game Wednesday night at Regis Stadium.

University of Saint Joseph struck first in the opening minute of play as Garrett Lazor scored off an assist from Ryan Paltauf. Regis tied the game in the second minute of play, with Nick Klein (Buxton, Mass.) scoring off a pass from Connor Deveau (Harwichport, Mass.). USJ applied offensive pressure for the next 10 minutes of play by taking 10 shots, with Regis goalie Devin Hammon (Chicopee, Mass.) earning seven saves.

The Blue Jays went on a 7-0 scoring run before Anthony Marsella (Johnston, R.I.) found Jack Jaynes (Reading, Mass.) to score the second Pride goal of the contest in the third quarter, followed by another goal from Jaynes just after a penalty was called on the Blue Jays for slashing. The Blue Jays responded with two more goals to finish out the third quarter leading 11-3.

The Pride outscored the Blue Jays in the final quarter, 3-2, with Pride goals from Marsella, Brendan Cook (Billerica, Mass.), and Matt Cabassa (Weymouth, Mass.), but it wasn't enough to prevent the USJ win.

Jaynes finished with two goals and two assists, while Marsella earned one goal and an assist. Klein, Cabassa, and Cook scored one goal each to help the Pride's offensive output in the game. Hammon finished with 15 saves in net.

The Pride (3-1, 0-1 GNAC) are scheduled to host MCLA on Saturday, March 16, with a 3:00 p.m. start time.
