Men’s Lacrosse Falls in Conference Opener

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College lost to Johnson and Wales University, 20-2, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse match at Regis Stadium.

Johnson and Wales continually gained possession thanks to Mike Catuosco, who went 20-for-22 on faceoffs and collected 20 ground balls. Joe McIntyre scored 2:35 into the match, followed by goals by Chris Calisto and Tyler Drago eight seconds apart. Calisto and Donny McInnis scored eight seconds apart late in the first quarter to extend the Wildcat lead to 5-0.

Drago scored seven seconds into the second quarter, and Calisto followed with two more goals. McIntyre scored three times in the last five minutes of the first half as the Wildcats increased their lead to 12-0 heading into halftime.

The Pride finally broke through on the scoreboard with 9:13 remaining in the third quarter as Blake Hiltz (Tewksbury, Mass.) picked up his fifth goal of the season. Anthony Marsella (Johnston, R.I.) collected his sixth goal of the year in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring in the match.

McIntyre led the Wildcats with seven goals, while Calisto finished with five goals and Drago contributed two goals and six assists. Besides his faceoff proficiency, Catuosco also led all players with four caused turnovers.

Regis goalie Nick Penta (Cotuit, Mass.) finished with 19 saves before Robby Fuller (Wolfeboro, N.H.) took over for the final 10:15 of the match and was credited with one save. Trent Madigan earned the victory for the Wildcats after making six saves, with Chris April collecting four saves in just over 10 minutes of action.

Regis College (2-3, 0-1 GNAC) hosts Emerson College Wednesday, March 23, starting at 4 p.m. before resuming conference play against University of Saint Joseph next Saturday, March 26, beginning at 1 p.m. at Regis Stadium. Johnson and Wales (4-2, 1-0 GNAC) plays at Mass Maritime Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m. before hosting Emmanuel next Saturday at 1 p.m.
