Pride Men’s Lacrosse Announces 2021-22 Captains

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's lacrosse program will enter the 2022 competition season with defender Jack Crater (Welcome, N.C.), goalkeeper Nick Penta (Andover, Mass.), and attacker Ryan Richardson (Corona, Calif.) as its captains, announced last week by Pride head coach Matthew Sweeney.

In his first year with the Pride in 2020, Crater started all three matches before the season was halted. He finished with five groundballs and four caused turnovers in the season opener at Maine Maritime, followed by consecutive matches with three groundballs and one caused turnover. Majoring in secondary education and history with a minor in political science, Crater is a two-time Academic All-GNAC selection.

"Jack's enthusiasm for the team is contagious and has been a positive influence since he arrived to campus. He has demonstrated his dedication and really become a model for his teammates to follow," said Sweeney.

Penta played every second in net for the Pride before the stoppage in 2020, finishing with a 6.67 goals against average and a .688 save percentage. He collected 15 saves in each of the first two matches at Maine Maritime and at Thomas College, followed by a 14-save performance in Regis' home victory over Mitchell College. Penta is majoring in business management with a minor in economics.

"The passion that Nick has is clearly on display in everything that we do," continued Sweeney. "His competitiveness brings out the best in the people around him and is a huge boost to the way we approach things as a team."

Richardson's collegiate career started in 2020 with two goals, one assist, and two groundballs at Maine Maritime, followed by a five-goal effort in the Pride's victory at Thomas College. Against Mitchell College, he finished with three goals, one assist, and three groundballs, leading to the GNAC Rookie of the Week award March 16, 2020. Richardson is majoring in criminal justice with a minor in psychology.

"Ryan has set the bar for his teammates in a variety of ways. His hard working attitude and composure are visible to his teammates, and his impact on and off the field has been crucial," Sweeney said.

The competition season is scheduled to begin in late February, with the league slate starting up in mid-March.
