Men's Lacrosse Tops Daniel Webster, Targets NECC Top Seed

NASHUA, Mass. - Nicky Rodrigo (Miami, Fla.) posted seven goals and an assist leading Regis past host Daniel Webster, 12-5 in a NECC matchup and the regular season finale for the Eagles Tuesday at Eagle Field.

DWC is locked into the fourth spot in the NECC standings and will play a NECC tournament semifinal game at either Regis or Mitchell next Wednesday. Regis visits Mitchell on Saturday to determine the NECC's regular season champion and tournament top seed. Game time is 1:00 p.m.

Rodrigo, who upped his season goals total to 30 on the season, notched five in the first and two in the second as the Pride improved to 10-4 overall (3-0 NECC). AJ Karofsky (Barrington, R.I.) picked up two goals and two assists and Calvin Brault (Colchester, Vt.) added a goal and two helpers. Alex Ferran (Miami) and Danny Rancano (Miami) chipped in with a goal and assist apiece.

Anthony Cotoni (Groton, Mass.) posted two goals and two assists for the Eagles (7-7, 1-3 NECC). Tre Mason (Kelowna, B.C.) added a goal and assist while Collin Malone (Deland, Fla.) and David Downie (Merrimack) added solo scores with Malone earning a team-high six groundballs.

D.J. Barille (Medford, Mass.) made 13 saves for Regis. Curtis Larade (Merrimack, N.H.) stopped 12 shots for DWC. 

Regis posted key advantages in shots (36-33) and shots on goal (24-18) but earned decisive wins in groundballs (50-29) and face offs (15-2). Jack O'Brien (Milton, Mass.) was key for Regis in the faceoff circle, winning 15 of 17 and added six grounders.

Regis led 3-1 after one quarter, 7-2 at the half and 10-2 after three. 

DWC led 1-0 after Downie scored off a Mason pass three minutes in but Regis answered with two from Rodrigo sparking a run of five straight scores with Karofsky and Rancano also finding the back of the net. Rodrigo's third made it 5-1 early in the second and after Mason cut it to 5-2 for DWC, Rodrigo followed with another pair of back-to-back strikes with 2:32 and 1:56 remaining before the break. 

The Pride shutout the Eagles with a 3-0 run in the third and later led 12-3 before DWC closed it out with goals from Malone and Cotoni.

Prior to the contest, DWC honored six outgoing seniors in Cotoni, Downie, Larade, Brandyn Torrey (Keene, N.H.), Jay McGrath(Chelmsford, Mass.) and Mike Viola (Fort Meyers, Fla.).
