Men's Lacrosse Tops Becker In NECC Action

LEICESTER, MASS. – The Regis College men's lacross team topped Becker College 8-3 in New England Collegiate Conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.  The loss drops the Hawks to 3-10 (0-2 NECC), while the Pride up their record to 8-3 (1-0 NECC). 

 

With 4:35 left in the first quarter, Nicky Rodrigo (Miami, Fla.) put Regis on the board with the first goal of the game.  The Hawks tied the game 16 seconds into the second quarter on a Dan Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) goal, assisted by Blake Boutiette (Burrillville, R.I.).  The teams finished the half tied, 1-1.

 

Becker took their only lead of the game with 12:34 remaining in the third quarter, when Avyay Chaganty (Bridgewater, N.J.) scored on an assist from Johnson.  Less than a minute later, the Pride answered back, with another goal from Rodrigo.  Regis then went on a 5-1 run to finish off the third quarter; Rodrigo capped off their lead with a lone goal in the fourth, making the final score 8-3.

 

Nicky Rodrigo led the Pride with a three goals, including the first and last of the game; Collin Spillane (Franklin, Mass.) contributed two goals and one assist, while Alex Ferran (Miami, Fla.) added two goals in the win.  The Hawks were led by Daniel Johnson, who scored two goals and one assist.

 

Regis goalie D.J. Barrile (Medford, Mass.), earned the victory after making 15 saves; Becker keeper Jordan Mudd (Decatur, Ga.) had nine saves in the loss.

 

Becker returns to action Wednesday, April 13th when they travel to Nichols College for a 7:00 p.m. start.  Regis also returns to the field on Wednesday, going on the road to New England College for a 4:00 p.m. tilt.
