Karofsky Goes For Season High, Regis Tops Mass. Maritime

WESTON, Mass.AJ Karofsky (Barrington, R.I.) scored a season high five goals to lift the Regis College men's lacrosse team to an 11-7 win over Mass. Maritime on Wednesday night at Regis Stadium. The Pride improve to 7-3 on the season while the Buccaneers drop to 5-5.

D.J. Barrile (Medford, Mass.) posted 12 saves with Mass. Maritime goalie James Klose recording six saves. Reed McLean scored a hat trick to lead the Buccaneers.

Ted Powers opened the scoring for Mass. Maritime but that would be the first and only lead for the Buccaneers. Danny Rancano (Miami, Fla.) tied up the game then Karofsky one-timed a pass from Calvin Brault (Colchester, Vt.) to give the Pride a 2-1 lead after the first quarter. Brault had a game-high two assists.

Karofsky extended the lead early in the second period when he scooped up a ground ball and scored top shelf past Klose. Nicky Rodrigo (Miami, Fla.) added a goal as well but McLean kept the contest close for Mass. Maritime with two goals in the period as Regis took a 4-3 lead into halftime.

Karofsky and Rodrigo scored in the third quarter before the game began to open up in the final frame. Goals by Brault and another by Karofsky extended to the lead to 9-5 with 8:18 remaining, then Andrew O'Reilly (Hollis, N.H.) delivered a beautiful behind-the-back pass to Rancono who buried the shot to complete the scoring.

The Pride open conference play this Saturday, Apr. 9 at Becker. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
