PORTLAND, Maine – The Regis College men's lacrosse team edged Saint Joseph's College (Maine) 13-11 in a non-conference contest Saturday afternoon at Deering Memorial Stadium. With the win, the Crimson and Gold moved to 2-1 and the loss dropped the Monks to 1-3 on the year.

Saint Joseph's trailed 13-5 late in the third quarter but managed to net six unanswered goals, including a trio of Luigi Grimaldi (Portland, Maine) tallies, in the final 17 minutes to draw within two strikes of tying the contest. Trailing by a pair with two minutes remaining in regulation, the Monks continued to pour on the offensive pressure with five shots in the closing 90 seconds, but four sailed off target and the final attempt was stopped by Regis junior keeper Tyler Estes (Geneva, Ill.).

The Monks led in the early going as a man-up score from senior Jake O'Brien (Andover, Mass.) lifted the hosts to a 3-1 advantage with 14:04 left in the second quarter. The Pride proceeded to outscore the hosts by a 7-2 margin leading up to halftime and boasted an 8-5 lead going into intermission.

Regis continued to dominate in the third stanza as the visitors extended their lead to 13-5 with five unanswered strikes before St. Joe's mounted an encouraging comeback bid that ultimately fell short.

Nicky Rodrigo (Miami, Fla.) netted three goals with a pair of assists for the Pride while teammate Danny Rancano (Miami, Fla.) added a hat-trick of his own (three goals) and an assist. AJ Karofsky (Barrington, R.I.) racked up a pair of tallies with a pair of ground balls. Calvin Brault (Colchester, Vt.) added two goals with two ground balls. Alex Ferran (Miami, Fla.) contributed with two goals and starting goalkeeper D.J. Barrile (Medford, Mass.) played a major factor in today's result by stopping 17 of the 23 shots he faced

Despite the final score, Saint Joseph's had considerable leads in several categories including shots (59-33), face offs won (15-11), ground balls (28-20), and turnovers (15-22). The Monks were also more successful on clear attempts (15-18 vs. 13-18) and man-up situations (5-8 vs. 2-4) in the loss.

Regis returns to action on Wednesday when they welcome Emerson to campus for a 5:00 p.m. non-conference duel.
