MUSTANGS RACE PAST PRIDE

WESTON, Mass. – Mount Ida College defeated host Regis College, 24-6, in a non-conference men's lacrosse matchup on Friday night in Weston, Mass. The Mustangs have now won six-straight to improve to 7-4 overall while Regis drops to 8-3 with the setback.

Wyatt Sullivan (Arlington, Mass.) opened the scoring in the game as he took a pass from Joe Galante (Framingham, Mass.) and buried a crank shot to put the Mustangs on top 1-0. Jack O'Brien (Milton, Mass.) answered nearly three minutes later as he came down from the top and fired a shot past the keeper to tie the game 1-1. With 5:52 to play in the first quarter, the Pride went on the man advantage and Grant Nordlund (Miami, Fla.) found Peter Leighton (Wilmington, Mass.) in front to give Regis a 2-1 lead.

The Mustangs answered with four-straight goals to end the period and take a 5-2 lead at the end of the first. Lucas Stralka (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Jon Berry (Chichester, N.H.) entered the scoring column for Mount Ida, with Sullivan adding two more goals.

The second and third quarters were all Mount Ida as they outscored the Pride 15-0 in the two periods to take a commanding 20-2 lead into the final quarter.

Danny Rancano (Miami, Fla.) ended the drought for Regis with a score on the man advantage to open the fourth quarter, and Nicky Rodrigo nailed a shot at the 10:35 mark of the stanza for his first tally of the game. O'Brien and Leighton would each add scores before the final whistle as the Mustangs cruised to the 24-6 victory.

Mount Ida held a 73-23 advantage in shots and picked up 52 groundballs to 27 for the Pride. The Mustangs won 21-of-34 face-offs, led by Alex Zito's (Andover, Conn.) 16-for-24 showing, and committed only 12 turnovers to 24 for Regis.

Peter Leighton led Regis with a pair of goals and an assist, while O'Brien netted two of his own. Andrew O'Reilly (Hollis, N.H.), D.J. Barrile (Medford, Mass.), Leighton, and Nick Dallas (Huntington Beach, Calif.) each had three groundballs, with Brandon Mehler (Bay Shore, N.Y.) grabbing a team-high five groundballs and going 5-for-11 on face-offs.

Barrile suffered the setback while making 13 saves in the first half. Josh Giarratano (Warwick, R.I.) played the third quarter and made 10 saves, with Tyler Estes (Geneva, Ill.) wrapping up the fourth and making five saves.

Wyatt Sullivan scored five goals and handed out three assists to lead the Mount Ida attack. Mike Markevich (Westminster, Mass.), Berry, and Lucas Stralka added three goals apiece, while Joe Galante (Framingham, Mass.), Shaun Royce (South Windsor, Conn.), and Paul Studdard (West Haven, Conn.) each scored twice. Zito led the defense with nine groundballs on the day, with Alex Veloukas (Salem, Mass.) adding five of his own. Cam Hayward (Derry, N.H.) picked up the win in net by making nine saves.

Regis returns to New England Collegiate Conference action next Saturday when they host Mitchell at 4:00 p.m. Mount Ida will take on the Mariners tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in Newton, Mass.
