BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - Despite scoring three goals late in the game, Regis Collge fell short of a comeback and dropped a 7-5 non-league men's lacrosse game against Massachusetts Maritime on Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Peter Leighton (Wilmington, Mass.) and Nicky Rodrigo (Miami, Fla.) led the Pride (6-4) with two points apiece. Leighton had two goals in the losing effort, while Rodrigo had one goal and one assist. Sophomore Reed McLean (Wilbraham, Mass.) and freshman Sam Jarvis (Laurel Springs, N.J.) each netted a pair of goals to lead the Bucacaneers (6-3).

Jarvis collected both of his tallies in the opening 20 minutes of action to help give Mass. Maritime an early 3-0 advantage before Matt Vogan (Billerica, Mass.) scored to get the Pride on the board at the 5:53 mark of the second quarter. The Bucs added some insurance with the clock winding down to take a 4-1 lead into the break.

McLean and Rodrigo traded scores just 22 seconds apart in the third quarter, as Regis still trailed by three with one quarter to play.

Leighton scored on the man advantage opportunity early in the fourth to bring the Pride to within two goals, but the hosts answered with back-to-back goals courtesy of Patrick Kearney (Scituate, Mass.) and McLean minutes later to restore Massachusetts Maritime's four goal edge at 7-3 with 8:19 remaining.

A pair of man-up markers from Leighton and senior Chris Campbell (South Hadley, Mass.) in the final 5:57 of action enabled Regis to climb back to within two goals, but they were unable to get any closer.

Senior Paul Painten (Walpole, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with four first half saves for the Buccaneers, who received six second half stops from freshman Keison Cunningham (Weymouth, Mass.). Senior Breandan Crane (Billerica, Mass.) made 19 saves in the setback for the Pride.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Emerson in a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference outing on Sunday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 4:30 p.m., while Regis heads to Nashua, N.H. on Thursday afternoon to take on Daniel Webster in a New England Collegiate Conference match that begins at 4:00 p.m.
