UPPER DUBLIN, Pa. - The Regis College men's lacrosse team opened up their 2014 campaign with a 9-8 win on the road against Bryn Athyn on Saturday afternoon. Junior Peter Leighton (Wilmington, Mass.) and senior Matt Vogan (Billerica, Mass.) paced the Pride offense by combining for 5 goals and one assist on the day.

After giving up a goal late in the first quarter, Chris Campbell (South Hadley, Mass.) finally gave the Pride the equalizer off an assist from freshman Colby Connell (Warwick, R.I.) at the 13:09 mark of the second quarter. After trading goals throughout the rest of the period, Nick Dallas (Huntington Beach, Calif.) put Regis up, 5-4 with 2:35 to play, a lead which the Pride carried into halftime.

Luke Frazier (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) scored a few minutes into the third to tie things at five apiece before Leighton and Alex Ferran (Miami, Fla.) scored back-to-back goals to give Regis a two goal cushion. Nick Fetko (Fairfield, Conn.) scored in the closing minutes to cut the deficit to one heading into the fourth and final quarter. 

The Lions took advantage of a Regis penalty to tie things up again, 7-7 with 12:35 remaining in regulation. Vogan would give the Crimson & Gold the go-ahead goal less than three minutes later off a pass from Andrew O'Reilly (Hollis, N.H.), while Leighton scored the eventual game-winner at the 7:39 mark, as the Pride survived a late goal by the host squad to hang on for the win.

Breandan Crane (Billerica, Mass.) got the win in between the pipes for Regis after making 12 saves and adding a team-high seven groundballs, while the Lions' Robert Moran (Ambler, Pa.) made 13 saves in the losing effort.

Kieran Ragan (Philadelphia, Pa.) paced Bryn Athyn with four goals, 19 shots, and four ground balls.

O'Reilly finished with two assists in the win for Regis, while Nicky Rodrigo (Miami, Fla.) also scored for the Pride, who return to action tomorrow afternoon with a non-conference game at Neumann. The game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
