WESTON, Mass.- The Regis College men's lacrosse team fell to MIT Wednesday night by the score of 14-2 in Pilgrim League action. The Pride moves to 3-9 overall on the season and 0-3 in the Pilgrim League. The visiting Engineers move to 5-6 overall on the season and 1-2 in the Pilgrim League play.
MIT started the first period with a goal five minutes into the game from Gabe Blanchet (Hadley, Mass.) who caught a Sean Burke (Centennial, Colo.) pass to put the Engineers up 1-0. The Engineers tallied goals from Mike Gibson (Natick, Mass.), Ernie Park (Plainsboro, N.J.), and Bill Kelleher (Pittsburgh, P.a.) to go up by four at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter opened with a face-off victory for the Pride as Stephan Bottex (Norwood, Mass.) beat Gibson to give Regis a fast-break opportunity. This push did not last long as Regis turned the ball over giving MIT another offensive possession. A minute later Mateo Pena Doll (Elk, Calif.) put a bounce shot past Pride goalkeeper Breandan Crane (Billerica, Mass.) to stretch the lead to five. MIT closed the second quarter with the lead at 8-0 before the half.
Regis gained its first goal of the game when Matt Malloy (Saugus, Mass.) pushed pipe and dished to an open Peter Leighton (Wilmington, Mass.) to put the score at 10-1. MIT would rattle off three more goals to push the total to 13 on the game and had seven different players notch goals.
The Pride notched its final goal of the game on a man-up opportunity when Chris Campbell (South Hadley, Mass.) placed a direct pass to Chris Costello (Martha's Vineyard, Mass.) to move the score to 13-2.
The Pride defense was led by sophomore goalkeeper Breandan Crane who tallied 10 saves on the games. The Engineers split time between goalkeepers with Chris Rullan (Wexford, P.a.) tallying four saves in 45 minutes played and Michael Gerhardt (Chelmsford, Mass.) tallying one save in the fourth quarter.
Regis will host Babson College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. for its next match-up, while the Engineers will host Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 2:00 p.m.
