LYONS POWER PAST PRIDE 20-3

WESTON, Mass.- The Regis College men's lacrosse team fell to Wheaton College Thursday night 20-3, during Pilgrim League play. The Pride moves to 3-7 overall on the season and 0-2 in the Pilgrim League. The visiting Lyons move to 6-4 overall on the season and 2-0 in the Pilgrim League.

Wheaton got on the board in the first quarter when Mike Harrington (Sturbridge, Mass.) converted a pass from Matthew Hillman (Brookline, Mass.) to put the Lyons up 1-0. Wheaton would tally two more quick goals to go up by three with six minutes left in the first quarter.

The Pride offense found its groove when Chris Costello (Martha's Vineyard, Mass.) shredded the Wheaton defense and placed a shot top corner past Harrison Bramhall (Barrington, R.I.) to cut the Lyon lead to two. Hillman rattled off one more goal before the end of the first quarter to put Wheaton up 4-1.

The second quarter opened with a tally from Charlie Willauer (Duxbury, Mass.) to put Wheaton up 5-1. This would be the start of a 12-0 run for the Lyons who cruised through the second quarter and controlled the lead 11-1 at the half.

Regis notched its second goal of the game when sophomore John Basbas (Framingham, Mass.) drove hard to the cage and sunk a low bounce shot past the Jesse O'Neil (Charlestown, Mass.) to put the score at 16-2. The following faceoff was won by the Pride as Stephen Botttex (Norwood, Mass.) outplayed his man and scored on an unsettled fast break. Wheaton would tally the last four points in the fourth quarter to round out the game.

Hillman and Duncan Smith (Centerport, N.Y.) led the Lyons in goals as both notched five on the game. Sean Doherty was the main setup man for Wheaton leading the team in assists with four.

Regis was led by the goaltending skills of sophomore Breandan Crane (Billerica, Mass.) who tallied eight saves.

Wheaton split time in-between the pipes with Bramhall and O'Neil combining for nine saves on the game.

The Pride's next matchup is Friday against Pilgrim League opponent Clark University at 7:00 p.m. Wheaton is scheduled to take on Wentworth in its next matchup on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
