WESTON, Mass.-The Regis College men's lacrosse team fell 16-4, to Springfield College in the Pilgrim Lacrosse League opener at Stagg Field on Saturday afternoon. Regis moves to 2-5 overall on the season, while Springfield improves to 5-3.

Springfield dominated the game from the opening whistle as it controlled the ball from the onset, outshooting Regis 17-0 in the first quarter.

The Pride pumped in six goals in the opening 15 minutes of play, continually working the ball around the offensive third before taking chances along the crease. Both Kevin Sainte and Ryan Murphy found the back of the cage twice, while Ryon Lynch notched a pair of assists in the quarter.

Springfield tacked on another goal at the 12:57 mark of the second quarter on Tim Lockrow's first goal of the season to head into the half up 7-0.

Regis finally got on the board when Chris Costello (Martha's Vineyard, Mass.) found the bottom left corner off a feed from Matt Vogan (Belmont, Mass.) for a man-up strike with 4:09 left in the third quarter.

Springfield answered back with the final two goals of the third quarter, using a goal from Alex Laurenza and a man-up marker from Matt Basile to own a 9-1 lead after 45 minutes of action.

The scoring picked up in the fourth quarter as the teams combined for 10 goals, seven of which came off of Springfield sticks. After Kurtis Skelly pumped home a goal to start for the fourth for Springfield, Chris Campbell (South Hadley, Mass.) answered back with another man-up goal for Regis with 9:21 left in the game.

Shane Ferguson buried a shot low with 7:32 on the clock to make it 11-2 before Campbell and Nick Dallas (Los Angeles, Calif.) benefited from strong individual efforts for a pair of goals just 19 seconds apart.

Dom Roberto put to rest any thought of a Regis comeback as he scooped up the ground ball on the ensuing face-off and ripped a shot into the top shelf in a span of six seconds to kick start a 5-0 burst by the Pride to end the contest.

For the game, Springfield held a 48-6 advantage in shots, won 19 of the game's 24 face-offs, and held Regis to 8-for-24 on clears. All told, 44 players saw action in the game for Springfield.

Connor Nash earned the win as he played the first 23:02 of the game and did not face a shot. Kevin MacBride closed out the contest, making three saves.

Regis' Breandan Crane (Billerica, Mass.) played the first 30 minutes, making six saves and giving up seven goals, while Andrew Madden (Easton, Mass.) played the entire second half and made three stops.

Springfield will continue league play next Saturday when it travels to play MIT. Face-off is set for 1:00 pm.
