STEWART'S SOUND PERFORMANCE NOT ENOUGH AS PRIDE FALL TO EMMANUEL 6-5

WESTON, Mass.-The Regis College men's lacrosse team was defeated Wednesday night at the Roberto Clemente Field in non-conference action against Emmanuel College. The Saints edged the Pride 6-5 for the victory and move to 3-2 overall on the season. Regis moves to 2-4 on the season and is 1-1 in the last two games.

Billy Stewart (West Roxbury, Mass.) put the Pride up during the first five minutes of play when he put a rocket past Saints goal keeper Austin Lauzier (Bedford, N.H.) to make the score 1-0.

The Saints battled back in the second quarter when Eddie Thy (Portland, Maine) evened the game at 1-1. Thy converted on a distant rip he put top shelf past Regis goal keeper Breandan Crane (Billerica, Mass.) Joel Berger (Cape Neddick, Maine) answered less than a minute later tacking on a second goal to giving Emmanuel the lead at 2-1.

Stewart continued to have a hot hand throughout the game for Regis.  He nullified the Saints lead by capitalizing on a well placed pass from teammate Matt Vogan (Belmont, Mass.) to even the score at 2-2 heading into halftime.

Emmanuel opened up the third quarter with a tally from Jake Jaskolski (St. Clair, Mich.) to go up by one. The Pride erased this lead when John Basbas (Framingham, Mass.) found Peter Leighton (Wilmington, Mass.) open on the left side of the goal. Leighton finished the pass from Basbas to make the score 3-3. Basbas rallied the Pride offense five minutes later to give Regis its fourth goal and second lead of the game.

The fourth quarter proved to be an offensive shootout for the Saints who rifled off three straight unanswered goals in a ten minute span. Jaskolski started this rally by scoring thirty second s into the final quarter on a man-up play.

The Pride offense finally found the groove it was looking for in the final two minutes of play when Stewart swept hard to the cage and placed the ball past Lauzier to make the score 6-5. This would be the final goal of the game as both defenses held strong.

Lauzier posted a career-high 15 saves while also recording three groundballs. Crane was also solid in net, finishing with seven saves and three groundballs for Regis.

The Saints will return to action on Saturday when they open Great Northeast Athletic Conference play against Mount Ida College at 1:00 p.m.  The Pride will head to Mitchell College for a 12:00 p.m. non-conference tilt in New London, Connecticut.
