AMCATS CLAW PAST PRIDE 6-3

WESTON, Mass.- The Regis College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Anna Maria College Wednesday afternoon at the Regis College Athletic Complex by the score of 6-3. The loss moves the Pride to 1-3 overall on the season while the AMCATS improve to 2-3.

Anna Maria got on the board first early in the game when Grant Pilkington (Warwick, R.I.) caught a direct pass from Chris Summers (Long Valley, N.J.) and found the back net to put the AMCATS up by one. Blake Simpson (Warwick, R.I.) would give Anna Maria their second goal of the game when he converted on a pass from Joshua Smith (Mendon, Mass.) to make it a 2-0 game at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter opened with an offensive push from the Pilkington who drove far pipe and was able to find teammate Brad Peterson (North Kingston, R.I.) on the crease for an easy quick-stick goal. Regis answered four minutes later when sophomore Chris Campbell (South Hadley, Mass.) cranked a hard top shelf shot past Anna Maria's Andrew Ellis (Fitchburg, Mass.) to make the score 3-1 in favor of the AMCATS. Anna Maria went on a 3-0 run that was led by the strong shooting of Mike Saulnier (Wrentham, Mass.). Saulnier converted on three consecutive possessions to put the AMCATS goal total to six on the day.

Regis settled down in the fourth quarter playing strong defensive and held the AMCATS offense to only one point in the final fifteen minutes of play. The Pride offense fed off this intensity and finally started to find a groove. Chris Campbell caused Brad Peterson to turn over the ball giving Akil Fisher (Cambridge, Mass.) the opportunity to push the ball to Peter Leighton (Wilmington, Mass.) who ripped a hard shot past Ellis to make the score 2-6. The Pride would answer back with a third goal of the game when Leighton placed a high-to-low shot off a feed from Billy Stewart (West Roxbury, Mass.) to make the final score 6-3.

Saturday, Regis will travel to Leicester, Massachusetts to take on Becker College in their next matchup with game time set for 1:00 p.m. Anna Maria's next match up is Saturday against Mitchell College.
