PRIDE FALLS TO SUNY-CANTON, 3-1

WESTON, Mass.-The Regis College men's lacrosse team fell to SUNY Canton Saturday afternoon by the score of 3-1. The Kangaroos earned their first victory of the season, while the Pride moves to 1-2 overall on the season.

Canton got on the board early in the game when Alex Tibbles rifled a quick-stick shot into the Pride net off a pass from Rob Liggio to put the Roos up by one.  Regis battled back with a barrage of shots on goal in the first period but could not find the net.  Canton's Corey Spuck held the Pride offense to zero points and controlled the lead going into the second quarter.

In the second quarter Regis found a groove and was able to even the game at a 1-1 tie. Freshman Peter Leighton (Wilmington, Mass.) converted off a direct pass from John Basbas (Framingham, Mass.) who pushed high pipe and found Leighton waiting on the high crease for the goal.

The Pride defense remained stingy throughout the game keeping Canton scoreless in the second quarter.  Breandan Crane (Billerica, Mass.) solidified the pipes for Regis and tallied nine saves on the game.

Canton tallied a tiebreaker from Tibbles early in the third quarter when he sunk a low rising pass from fellow teammate Trevor Wright to make the score 2-1.

Regis settled the ball with five minutes left in regulation of the fourth quarter and tried to find an offensive play that would work. This drive was unsuccessful with both sides committing a plethora of turnovers.

Canton notched the final score of the game on a Taylor Caswell shot that found the back of the net to put the final tally at 3-1 and gave Canton the victory.

Both teams were plagued by turnovers during the four quarters of play. Regis committed 28, while the Roos committed 29.

Regis returns to action Wednesday afternoon when the team hosts Anna Maria College at 4:00 p.m. The Roos return to action Sunday afternoon when they host the Wells College Express at the Canton Sport Complex with the game set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
