LEIGHTON'S FOUR POINTS NOT ENOUGH AS PRIDE FALLS TO MOUNT SAINT VINCENT 16-8

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's lacrosse team fell to Mount Saint Vincent College by the score of 16-8 in non-conference action Wednesday night. The victory helps the Dolphins improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Pride moves to 1-1 overall on the season.

Mount Saint Vincent was never seriously threatened in the game and used a six goal first quarter on the way to building a 7-0 lead on the night. Cohen got the scoring started at the 11:28 mark of the first quarter and assisted on three other goals in the seven tally run to open the game.

Including a Chris Costello (Martha's Vineyard, Mass.) goal that got the Pride on the board at the 10:03 mark of the second quarter, Regis rallied for four straight tallies to pull with 7-4 with just under four minutes to play before halftime. Bruce Pappas (Montrose, N.Y.) closed out the scoring in the first half with 2:15 left in the second period and sent the Dolphins to the intermission with an 8-4 advantage.

Peter Leighton(Wilmington, Mass.) got the Pride back to within three goals after he opened the scoring in the third quarter, but that would be as close as Regis would get the rest of the contest. The Dolphins scored four of the final five goals of the third and four of the six goals in the fourth to pull away and pick up the eight goal victory.

The Dolphins matched their season-high with 16 goals in the game and were paced by three goals from Cohen and Ahmed Ajao (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Cohen also assisted on four goals in the game and caused two turnovers, while Ajao added an assist and five groundballs.

Sophomore Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) earned his second win of the season after making 10 saves in the game and scooping four groundballs. Breandan Crane saw the bulk of action for the Pride and made nine stops and picked up two groundballs.

Regis was led by two goals and four points from Peter Leighton and also got a pair of tallies from Billy Stewart (West Roxbury, Mass). Matt Sheehan (Pembroke, Mass.) led the way with five groundballs and Stephan Bottex (Norwood, Mass.) won eight face-offs.
