WESTON,
MA - Regis College scored five times in the opening 5:30 en route
to a 14-0 victory against Wheelock College in non-conference men's
lacrosse action on Wednesday at the Regis Athletic Field. The
first-year Wildcats remained winless through six contests, while
the Pride moved to 3-2.
Wheelock, which served as the home team after the contest was
moved from its home venue at Pine Manor College due to unplayable
field conditions, received 11 saves from sophomore Michael Manning
(Brookfield, NH/Kingswood Regional). He also snapped up eight
ground balls, while classmate Paul Collins (Hyde Park, MA/Sharon)
recorded four from his position as a defenseman.
Sophomore Bradford Hastings (Mansfield, MA/Mansfield) had four
goals and an assist for Regis, freshman John Basbas (Framingham,
MA/Framingham) added a hat trick and 10 ground balls, and classmate
Billy Stewart (West Roxbury, MA/Catholic Memorial) assisted four
goals. Freshman Tyler Beyor (Carthage, NY/Carthage) picked up the
win after making one save during a shutout first half, and
classmate Breandan Crane (Billerica, MA/Arlington Catholic) turned
aside a pair of second-half shots after scoring a goal of his own
during the opening stanza. Sophomore Stephan Bottex (Norwood,
MA/Norwood) went 12-for-12 on draws and tallied seven ground
balls.
Freshman Matt Molloy (Saugus, MA/St. Mary's) scored after 57
seconds for the eventual game-winner before Hastings tallied off a
man-up opportunity at 12:02 of the first quarter. Basbas scored the
next pair 1:05 apart, with his second marker the first of three
straight that Stewart assisted. The Pride made it 7-0 at 3:42
before slowing the tempo, netting a pair of goals in each the
second and fourth quarters, and tallying three times in the
third.
