PRIDE OPENS SEASON WITH FIRST HOME GAME AGAINST LIONS

PRIDE OPENS SEASON WITH FIRST HOME GAME AGAINST LIONS

Weston, Mass.—The Regis College men's lacrosse team returns 10 players from the 2009-10 season and adds 10 fresh faces for 2011. The Pride will have a young offense that will look to gain experience throughout the season.

The Pride’s offense is led by sophomore Brad Hastings (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield ) who returns as the team’s leading scorer. Hastings is a quick shifty player that can break defenses and finish with his hasty shooting skills. Stephan Bottex (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) looks to be a solid midfielder that can play both sides of the field and dominate the face-off circle for the Pride.  Derek Brown (Brighton, Mass./Matignon) is a speedy midfielder that can clear the ball and will play both sides for the Pride. Sophomore Mike Kaplan (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) adds agility to the Pride’s offense with his ability to finish quick-stick shots.

Newcomers Matt Vogan (Belmont, Mass./Belmont), John Basbas (Framingham, Mass./Framingham ) , Billy Stewart (West Roxbury, Mass./Catholic Memorial ), and Matt Molloy (Saugus, Mass./St. Mary's) are impact freshman that will help the Pride’s offense excel in 2011. With more game experience these freshmen should move up in the Pride’s depth chart. Nick Yerzyk (West Hills, Calif./Chaminade College Prep) and Jake Peverada (Beverly, Mass./St. John's Prep) will look to develop as the season progresses.

The Pride’s defense is led by sophomore captain Andrew Goldberg (Solebury, PA/New Hope) and senior Frank Tammaro (Framingham, Mass./Plant City High). Both returners bring a wealth of defensive experience to the Pride this season. Goldberg excels with his athletic ability and prominence in throwing technical checks; while Tammaro is the Pride’s enforcer using his physicality to break opposing offenses.

Freshman Ray Dunn (Saugus, Mass./Matignon) will bring a physical presence to the Pride’s defense. Dunn will be playing as a long stick midfielder and also taking face-offs. Junior Andrew LaMacchia (Lynn, Mass./St. Mary's ) transitions to long pole this season and will look to add depth to the Pride’s defensive squad.  Broderick McCauley (Pittsfield, Mass./Saint Joseph High School) and Brian Cidado  (Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) will look to solidify the Pride’s defense as the season progresses.

The Pride has two solid goalies that will share time between the pipes this season.  Breandan Crane (Billerica, Mass./Arlington Catholic) and Tyler Beyor (Carthage, N.Y./Carthage) will skipper the defensive calls from the net and have an impact on the Pride’s clearing schemes. Akil Fisher (Cambridge, Mass./Chapel Hill Chauncy Hall) and Domenic DiCato (Revere, Mass./Revere) are defensive midfielders that will prove to be a asset to the Pride’s defensive schemes.

The Pride’s first home game will be against Emerson Saturday (Mar. 19) at 3:00 p.m.
