Rau Earns 1,000th Career Point in 75-52 Victory Over Elms

Chicopee, Mass. – After concluding the first half with a 10-point lead, Regis extended its offensive output to defeat Elms College, 75-52, Wednesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball game at Picknelly Arena.

The Pride started the game with a 6-0 scoring run, featuring a layup and free throw from Jamir Harvey (Robbins, III.), followed by a three-pointer from Russell Rau (Fitchburg, Mass.). The Blazers were quick to respond with a jump shot from Tahquell Cadel, tying the game at 10 points each.

The Pride continued to push offensively, scoring 12 unanswered points from Harvey, Rau, Cameron Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.), and Justin Evelyn (Uniondale, N.Y.).

With just 40 seconds remaining in the first half, Rau made a three-point jump shot to complete his 1,000th career point. Rau is the seventh player in Regis' men's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points. The Pride finished the first half ahead, 34-24.

Elms started strong in the second half with consecutive layups from Aaron Sanchez and a three-pointer from Teron Griffin. After a three-pointer from Gehrig Brynda (Deerfield, Mass.) extended the Pride lead, the Blazers responded with action from Samuel Ackah-Yensu, Kishaun Cole, and RJ Mayfield but were unable to catch up and pull ahead for the remainder of the game.

Harvey and Brynda led the Pride with 13 points and four rebounds each. Rau earned his 14th double-double of the season finishing with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Evelyn finished with 11 points and 10 assists for his first double-double of the season.

Aaron Sanchez finished with 16 points and four rebounds for the Blazers, while Cadle earned 10 points with five rebounds and five assists.

The Pride (11-11, 6-5 GNAC) is set to host Albertus Magnus on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 3:00 p.m. Elms (4-19, 2-9 GNAC) is scheduled to host University of Saint Joseph on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 1:00 p.m.
