Men’s Hoop Loses at Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. - Regis College lost to Lasell University, 73-60, Saturday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball game at the Lasell Athletic Center.

Russell Rau (Fitchburg, Mass.) notched his 11th double-double of the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Justin Evelyn (Uniondale, N.Y.) finished with 12 points and four assists, while Cameron Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) contributed nine points, three rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.

After early baskets by Evelyn and Rau, Lasell put together a 10-2 scoring run, capped by a three-pointer from Cameron Foster-Martez, to open a 12-6 lead. Later in the first half, the Lasers scored seven straight points, five of them from Andy Madesko, as they extended their advantage to 45-29 heading into halftime.

The Pride attempted to battle back, closing to within seven points at 52-45 thanks in part to two three-pointers from Zakaria Latifi (Holliston, Mass.), but Lasell quickly responded with six unanswered points, capped by a three-pointer from Conan McCusker. Regis came within seven points one more time at 60-53, but the Lasers would hold off the Pride the rest of the game.

Marcus Lewis led the Lasers with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Madesko finished with 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. As a team, Lasell shot 42.1 percent (24-for-57) from the field and 76 percent (19-for-25) from the free throw line.

The Pride shot 43.4 percent (23-for-53) from the field and 78.6 percent (11-for-14) from the free throw line, plus they won the rebounding battle, 34-30. Each team scored 19 points off the other team's turnovers.

Regis College (8-11, 3-5 GNAC) hosts New England College Tuesday, Jan. 30, starting at 5 p.m. at Higgins Court. The Pride will play at home in four of their final six contests, including three straight Saturdays beginning next Saturday, Feb. 3, against Rivier as part of Alumni Appreciation Day.
