Pride Men's Basketball Loses to Monks

WESTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College took early control and defeated Regis College, 83-56, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball game on Higgins Court.

Gehrig Brynda (Deerfield, Mass.) led the Pride with a career-high 12 points, while Joshua Perez (Lynn, Mass.) finished with nine points and three assists. Jamir Harvey (Robbins, III.) finished with eight points and seven rebounds, while Justin Evelyn (Uniondale, N.Y.) and Russell Rau (Fitchburg, Mass.) also scored eight points apiece.

The Monks held the Pride without a made basket for the first three-and-a-half minutes of play until Cameron Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) made the first layup for Regis. The Monks continued to apply pressure in the first half with three-point shots from John Paul Frazier, Camryn Yorke, Ashtyn Abbott, and Teagan Hynes.

Just after a three-point shot from Abbott increased the Monk lead to 50-26 at the start of the second half, a foul was called on Hynes, creating two successful free-throw opportunities for Harvey. However, Saint Joseph's College continued to control the contest the rest of the afternoon.

Remijo Wani finished the game for the Monks with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Abbott had 17 points and six rebounds. Wani Donato completed the game with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists to lead Saint Joseph's College to its first conference victory this season.
